A Special Effect is an animation (which may include sound) that doesn't affect any other objects in the game and is purely cosmetic. Abilities create effects, such as the damaged area on the ground near a Thunder Clap, but cannot be modified. Instead, triggers can create special effects at a point or attached to a unit, which must later be destroyed. When a special effect finishes it may either disappear or remain visible, but either way must eventually be destroyed. Actions
